Evelyn Evelyn: Conjoined Twins who rock!

Evelyn Evelyn are the world's only conjoined-twins singer-songwriting duo. Discovered and launched by Amanda Palmer from the Dresden Dolls, their first album was released 30th March. They play London from 22 - 25 April, with the first date in Koko, and the final 3 in Bush Hall.

I've been spending almost two months in the place that I used to call home: Buenos Aires. Every time that I come here, it feels like traveling in a time machine. So here I am, sharing with you some of the best pictures I ve found in the drawers. Enjoy.

This is my granpa Domingo aka Mingo (first bottom right) getting pissed with mafiosi friends.He is my grandad from my das's side, the Italian one. As you can see, silly pictures arent exclusive of the digital era.

i reached cambodia today - siem riep holds the temples of Angkor Wat / Nigger Wat , built by the Khmer 802-1220 AD,
one of the man made wonders of the world and biggest place of worship in the world apparantly...
to be fair though i am sitting in a cheese meister hotel (snake skin bed spread) ordering room service with a massive temperature
- watching wild sex on national geographic...

im sure its just a cold from walking in the rain and smoking an ounce of weed in a few weeks... and not denge fever...

if you like smoking weed, nature and chilling in divine scenery you will fuking love lao - they are throwing any kinda drugs (part of the golden vagina for opium production) at you at any street corner /// mum / dad / grandad / kid / it just doesnt fit somehow...

luang prabang - unesco protected x capital - stepping back in time to a miss marple mystery
tiny quant french colonial design and amazing temples - so incredibly pretty and slow /// full on river life

vang vieng has this crazy tubing thing down the nam som river (all rivers are deep brown) just you and a big tube going full force down a one way river - loadsa bars on the way that throw out lifelines and pull you in - with like mud wrestling and flight of the gibbon slides and swings... as you can imagine people are FUCKED and of much amusement to the laotian's that just stand there and watch all the horny drunk travellers endangering their lives...

vv is at a high altitude so clouds are always just a whisp away / walked through miles of rice fields to get to the mountains and see some crazy caves that peeps hid during the never ending civil war

vientiene capital - kinda like a small town with head quarters of lao corporations there - you cant beleive its a city
sleepy smokey grey blue hue everywhere - has a mini arc de triomphe and a rather underwhelming temple that has some part of the buddha is buried beneath it...

FACT: lao is the most bombed country in the world - 260m bombs where dropped on it / that is more than were dropped on the whole of EUROPE in the 2nd world war - 80m of those bombs are still live... thanks to the USA protecting the laotians from communism (ie their own government - sweet)...

Tales from the Amazon, Part 1

As we mentioned earlier, our beloved Bex went to the Amazonian jungle for 2 months to apprentice with a shaman. No seriously. We miss her dearly but are happy to have an update...here it is:

Hello girls!

So here is a little update from me!

Going back to the jungle for 3 weeks tomorrow. Its been bliss so far. . . Lots of reading books in hammocks, I even wrote a song and sang it in ceremony! Lolo you would have laughed! I am officially a tree hugger!

No sun tan coz the sun is too strong or there is a massive down pour, but I did get burnt on the first day so I have a stupid racer tank top line on my back but that is all.

Have lost loads of weight already from a combination of eating noting but rice and fruit and what can only be described as gruel. Then I throw up twice a week when I´m tripping! Don´t worry though, I´ve needed to lose some pounds for about 5 years anyway and I´m not hungry so don´t worry.

Errm, so things that I have seen, on the 2nd time I did it this time round I was literally in another dimension. My soul was in the centre of the universe and I was told that all our souls have absolute knowledge and power - its just that we forget it when we take physical form as humans! The female shaman I have just been staying with also told this girl who is doing the course with me that she is from another planet and she should try and learn from us humans!

But I have come back to loads of boring and annoying emails (apart from girlcore´s obviously) so it makes me appreciate how lucky I am to get away from it all for a bit.

East London’s brand new venue the Dalston Superstore presents to you ‘We Heart Urbanism’, an exhibition born from the pages of Swedish illustrator Martin Wollerstam’s unique fanzine ‘Heart Heart’.

Wollerstam’s unmistakable illustrations are fast becoming a notorious part of east London’s urban landscape and across the board. His mono graphic lines create and deliver a twisted wit and social commentary; it is this individual take on the world that makes his curatorial skills so interesting and has resulted in this exhibition.

We heart Urbanism explores the work of five artists from around the world, living and creating work in urban environments, and exploring their responses to the concept of Urbanism. Through their artistic perception and language, a thought process is uncovered which creates a visual and conceptual urban landscape from the artist’s point of view.

Unexpectedly this is not an exhibition of Street art influenced work but subtle descriptions and poetic capturing of what makes us/we urban.

Martin Wollerstam is a Swedish illustrator based in London. He's received commissions from Selfridge's, Swear and night club Fabric to name a few.
His work is concerned about the ‘possibilities of illustrating the feelings and the emotions of his dark humoured drawings’.

Argentinean photographer Julia Corsaro is based in London. Her work mainly consists in documenting her own personal experience with any available camera and ordering pictures in sets that suggest hidden narratives.
As a part of music and art collective GIRLCORE, she is working together with other members in the launch of an art publication that will showcase female talent around the world.

Italian Photographer Alessandro Bartolomei is based in London and has had numerous exhibitions of his work in Italy.

Bigote Rojo is a Swedish born artist who lives between Sweden and London, for this exhibition his work concentrates on A highly populated urban environment called ‘Urville’ on an island off the coast of France. His work explores concepts of urban creators and the relationship between them, their metropolis, its inhabitants and humanity as a whole.

London based artist Alex Noble draws influences form Art Nouveau, comic books, 70’s poster art, myths and legend, pornography, sub culture, pop art, and fetishism.

In this exhibition he explores a humorous personal take on his responses to Urbanism, street culture, ghetto’s, urban jungles and homo-eroticism in an urban landscape.

When I meet Nova Dando at the peppermint green warehouse in Hackney where she lives and works, she’s just come from a meeting at the Hospital members’ club in Covent Garden. She’s a creative in residence there for 2009 and she’s totally enthused about scheme. ‘It’s great’, she says of the scheme, ‘you get advice about branding, about building a business – you get to talk to the people you don’t get to talk to when you’re at college. And I can use their facilities and their studios. They’ve got a cinema I can use if I want to make and show a video’. And, of course, The Hospital get Nova’s supercool creative input and connections. But before any of that, she’s got to make a crown. Out of gold cardboard. It’s for a shoot that’s happening tomorrow, she explains, thoughtfully looping the board into coronets as she speaks..."

Los Angeles: Land of plenty

While I sit here watching the streets outside my house get covered in snow (that's actually sticking to the ground), I thought I'd check the weather forecast for tomorrow and the rest of the week - MORE SNOW! How the fuck am I going to walk on the snow-covered sidewalk tomorrow for 25 minutes to the tube? I could always see if Loki would let me borrow her UGG boots! Oh wait, she's saving those for Moscow...

Meanwhile, my husband's out in Los Angeles "on business". Yesterday he spent the day riding bikes along the beach, and today he's going hiking in the hills. This is after last nights sushi dinner and today's breakfast of huevos rancheros! He's staying with our friend in Venice who has a prescription for weed - you know, to take the edge off - so they made a pit stop at the FARMACY - otherwise known as the weed supermarket.

I guess it depends on what you're after... Yeah, there's loads of cheesy people in LA with fake tans and fake boobs, lots of traffic, the parties aren't that good, and most of the bands suck, but I'd be happy to suffer in exchange for the sun and a life outdoors. The £ keeps dropping anyway, so its not even like I can say "well at least our dollar is worth twice as much as yours" anymore... Boo.

WEATHER
Snow in London, Sunshine in LA (and a little rain, but they need the rain to grow all the trees and fruit!)

MALIBU
One of my favorite places in the world. Where the cliffs meet the sea. This is Zuma Beach. A rad beach where you walk down a big cliff to get there. Pretty awesome sunsets on the West Coast too!

AVOCADO TREES
You don't get guacamole without avocados and in California, the trees are everywhere. You probably didn't know they grew on trees because all the fruit and vegetables in the UK are imported from other countries. Good for your skin and tasty too, there are as many avocados in Cali as there are potatoes in the UK.

LEGAL WEED
They have weed supermarkets! Yes, I am not shitting you. Stores that only sell weed.

And they sell every kind of weed you can imagine. All those names you may have remembered from reading High Times - well, they're real, and they're all there - on sale - legally.

HIKING THE HOLLYWOOD HILLS
This is Ruyon Canyone. A friend of mine lives just at the base and goes hiking every morning before work. There's all kinds of hikes in LA. And you can't hear the traffic or smell any pollution - there is REAL nature in LA.

THE COFFEE BEAN & TEA LEAF
In LA, there are guilt free options of everything. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is a chain, but its a good one. Their iced coffees are the shit and one summer I got addicted to their Vanilla blendeds (with an extra shot of espresso).

MEXICO
Proximity to Cabo San Lucas. You can fly to Cabo for like $150 and stay somewhere really amazing and beautiful and cheap. And eat lobster anyway you like it. How pretty is that water. The sand is also white.

Proximity to Tijuana. Just across the border in TJ, not only can you go to crazy Mexican raves, but you can also get prescription drugs without a prescription.

Oh - and when you want a burger, there's no better burger in the world. Order that animal style.

London's home for now, but I sure as hell wouldn't mind being on my way to hike in Laurel Canyon, catch a sunset in Malibu, or pick some avocados off the tree in my backyard instead of sitting on my laptop, looking out at the snow and watching Loius Theroux on Dave.

Oh England, I never knew I missed you...

I've been back in my home country for the past 2 months - America. 1 month in NYC and 1 month in Texas. While I was there the same old question everyone always asked me was "Do you LOVE living in London?" You see, to Americans, anyone with an accent that even SOUNDS kinda sorta British (Australian, Irish, South African, hell, even French because Americans can't tell the difference anyway!) is instantly sooooooo cool. And if you are a guy, you magically resemble Hugh Grant and can talk the panties off of any girl in the room. So you can imagine their surprise when I always answered the same way "No. Actually I'm sick of it and I want to move back to America. Now can you please pass the salsa, my tacos aren't spicy enough yet."

I mean anyone who has sulked through the last 2 so-called "summers" will agree with me. So, when you are in Texas in December and it's 80 degrees and you're contemplating jumping in the pool - you kinda don't miss London.

Well, now I'm back in below freezing London and hey! I missed lots of things I never knew I did:

1. My cat Biscuits. Now this may seem cruel since I should KNOW I missed him, but sometimes I need a break. He has sharp claws and he likes to use them.

2. PG Tips and Marmite on toast for breakfast. I found some in NY actually - 40 bags of PG Tips for $8!!! What?! and Marmite for $11.50! But they just don't taste the same there.

3. The Sunday Observer. It just doesn't get any better than this. I could almost read it cover to cover when I had the time. That was B.B. (before baby).

4. Sky+ and British TV altogether. After spending 500 hours watching commercials on American TV and cursing every minute I am so happy to be back to commercial free TV if I choose. If I see one more commercial pushing legal drugs from multi billion $$ pharmaceutical companies I will die.

5. Virgin Airlines. Ahhhh, good ol trusty Virgin with their red lips, perfect hair buns, and no lines to wait in. How I've missed you.

6. Real Prime Time sports like "The Darts" and "Worlds Strongest Man". This is a bit more my style. I got really into American football while I was there because the Dallas Cowboys had a shot at the playoffs. But the WHOLE state of Texas got way too aggro over it and it made me realize why I've always hated football. It's such a 'dude' sport. (and that goes for American AND British versions of football)

7. No fast food. Yes there's a KFC around the corner but it's just another store on the high street that can be easily ignored. And thats the only one I can think of in this area at all. In America you can't drive 2 minutes without being accosted by some fast food franchise. Ew.

Well I've only been back for 3 days and haven't left my street so that's all that comes to mind now. I'll let you know when I start missing football and McDonalds.

I’m wearing a diaper. You know those diapers designed for old people who can’t hold their poop in? One of those. And to be honest, I don’t know how fond of it I am. For one, it’s not very flattering. It makes my butt look massive. Secondly, whenever I move it makes this crunching sound, like as if I’m hiding my own illicit stash of plastic bags inside my vagina. And to make things worse, it’s not even that comfortable. I have to waddle a bit when I walk. All in all I would have to say this diaper is a massive disappointment. I can only hope that by the time I’m old and incontinent the diaperologists of the world will have made advances in human-waste-absorboration-technology, because this is just downright unacceptable.

I’m wearing the diaper because I have my period. I got it earlier this afternoon. I was having a nice, peaceful nap on my boyfriend’s dad’s bed, only to awake to find my vagina blood had exploded everywhere and created a massive bloodstain on his immaculate, white satin sheets. Bad vibes. I then quickly and sneakily put the sheets into the washing machine, saying a little prayer to God along the way. Dear God, please can you remove my thick vaginal excretions from my boyfriend’s dad’s bed sheets? Pretty, pretty please? I don’t think I could handle it if it stained. I know it’s natural, and that I shouldn’t be embarrassed because it’s something all women undergo, but if I’m being honest, I think the whole period thing is pretty fucking sick. Maybe you should give that one a second thought??? Just a suggestion. Amen. I doubt he’ll listen. God can be a total bastard sometimes.

In high school I always had really mild periods. Unlike my friend Ashton, who literally bled all over anything and everything. From ninth grade onward everyone knew her as “that bitch with the heavy flow.” Her tag line was, “Wait… did I, like, get my period all over myself?” I swear her mother came into class at least once a month to bring her a new pair of clothes after she soaked hers in her own uterine lining. Just few months ago, her lung collapsed and she had to have surgery to fix it. She got her period in the middle of the procedure and bled all over the operating table. I keep reminding myself of these events to downplay the whole white satin sheet disaster. I’m not sure if it’s helping.

After searching the house unsuccessfully for tampons, I was contemplating whether to create a makeshift pad out of toilet paper, or to just shove a sock in my underwear (It actually works. I read about it in Seventeen Magazine), when my boyfriend walked in to find me distressed.

“I got my period all over everything and there are no tampons,” I said, frantically.

“Umm… I think we might have some old sanitary towels of my grandma’s,” he said, looking mildly disgusted. He returned five minutes later, his hands full of white cotton.

“This is not a sanitary towel,” I said, lifting the garment close to my face for inspection. “This is a diaper. I will not wear this.”

“Just try it,” he said. “Who knows? It might be sexy.” That is so fucked up, I thought. I swear, there is something infinitely creepy about this guy. Sometimes I feel like I don’t know him at all. Just the other day, while we were making out, he pulled away from me, looked deep into my eyes and said, “I would still love you if you were a boy.” I don’t know what that means exactly, but I have a funny feeling it has something to do with him wanting to stick his penis inside boys’ buttholes.

Either way, I had no other options, so I surrendered to the freak and am now wearing a pair of Maximum Dignity disposable underwear. God, am I feeling sexy. Oh, and keep this to yourselves, will you?

In case you were expecting the hotly anticipated 3rd Bloc Party record to come out at the end of the year like most people - surprise surprise, it will be available in just 2 days, hurrah! The band announced the album release last night on their first ever webchat with fans. It's pretty awesome since they have only just finished the record a couple of weeks ago. I remember when I worked at record labels only a few years ago and artists would have to wait upwards of 6 months just to get their music out because they were bound by things called 'release schedules' and having to be slotted into the huge cog of the traditional music industry.

So anyway here are the details:

Birth Control and Things I've Learned: Part 1

Hey ladies. Since I am the first Girlcore whore to be having a baby I feel it is my duty to give you the cold hard facts about pregnancy and childbirth. It may make you think twice about how great it sounds to poke a hole in your mans condom so you can stay at home eating bon bons and watching Maury episodes about the baby mama who has DNA tested 8 men to find the daddy of her bastard child and STILL got it wrong!

I am just starting my 9th month of pregnancy so I know a little something about this....I wont bore you with the complaints about ALL DAY sickness that lasts for 4mos and feeling like you'd rather die than keep feeling this ill for another second. No, I'll tell you some real shit you probably have never heard.

Fact 1: Pee Pants
At about the 7th month you will start to notice your panties always have a wet spot. Not from being horny (though at about month 3 you do start to have the most sexual, dirty dreams you could ever imagine and you DO wake up with wet panties then). But no, this wet spot is happening because A) you keep peeing yourself and B) your uterus is starting to lube itself up for the baby to come out. Yeah, you seriously will start to spurt little pees throughout the day and from here on out you need to wear a panty liner. Apparently its because prego hormones cause some relaxation of your urinary tract making the tissue less toned. Plus you have a watermelon inside you just pressing down on your bladder 24/7 so any slight cough, sneeze, or laughter with give you a squirt. Oh yeah and pregnant pee smells really bad too.

Fact 2: Bleeding Butt
About 50% of women get hemorrhoids in the last trimester of their pregnancy. If you don't know what that is, it's a varicose vein that's in your butt. Apparently it looks like you ate a bunch of tiny grapes and they passed through you undigested. It hurts and bleeds. Mostly you get it because another great thing about pregnancy is that you get constipated. So when you spend hours trying to push out a poo, you accidentally push out a hemorrhoid.
